Colombo: Sri Lanka Cricket`s interim committee, which has been administering the game in the country since July, was dissolved today by Sports Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage ahead of fresh elections ordered by the ICC.
Aluthgamage sacked a five-member committee headed by businessman Upali Dharmadasa and appointed his secretary as competent authority to look after the affairs of SLC until elections were held this year. The dissolution meant democratic elections will be held in SLC for the first time since 2004. The dissolution comes in the wake of ICC`s unanimous decision in June to amend its laws to make free elections mandatory for all national bodies by mid 2012. The interim committee under Dharmadasa replaced the previous committee headed by former Test captain DS de Silva. PTI
