New Delhi: Former India skipper Sourav Ganguly is set to miss the first match of the inagural Masters Cricket League (MCL) owing to back spasm.

The MCL starts from Thursday in Dubai and Ganguly who is representing the Libra Legends will be leading the side in the tourney.

According to a report in the Gulfnews.com, he was advised a week's rest by the doctors after suffering a back spasm during a practice game some days ago.

Reports state that the 43-year-old will be in the city cheering his team for the first game on Thursday.

Australian veteran cricketer Brad Hogg, attended the captain's press conference for the Legends, said Ganguly would be joining the team soon.

According to sources, the responsibility to lead the team will be with former South African all-rounder Jacques Kallis. Kallis' Sydney Thunders won the Big Bash League on Sunday.

Brad Hogg who also plays for Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League, said that Kallis wasn't available for training after the celebrations with the Thunders.

“Kallis’ Sydney Thunders won the Big Bash league, so he was not there for training this morning after all that celebrations. I think he has landed and is in the hotel. I will be going and grabbing him and make sure he is there with us for cruise tonight. He is the coach of Kolkata Knight Riders, so I have to do a bit of sucking up to him,” Hogg said.
