Washington: Former Miss California Carrie Prejean had issues with pageant officials prior to the controversy surrounding her contest answer, it has emerged.
The 22-year-old recently slapped the state organization with a lawsuit, alleging it discriminated against her religious beliefs and caused her emotional distress.
Her lawyers also alleged that the beauty queen was stripped off her crown due to her anti-gay marriage activism, which she made public in her answer during the national pageant in April.
And now, leaked emails exchanged between Carrie and the pageant officials suggest things were not running smoothly between the two parties long before their row over her stance on same-sex unions erupted, reports a news channel.
Carrie was said to have snapped ties with her state team several weeks before the competition, according one alleged e-mail from Carrie to Miss California co-director Keith Lewis.
It reportedly read, “I WILL NOT BE VERBALLY AND EMOTIONALLY ABUSED ANYMORE BY ANY OF YOU. I HAVE A COMPETITION TO PREPARE FOR. I WILL NO LONGER BE DEALING WITH ANYONE WHO IS GOING TO BRING ME DOWN AT THIS POINT. I WILL ONLY SURROUND MYSELF WITH PEOPLE WHO MAKE ME HAPPY. AND RIGHT NOW, THAT IS NONE OF YOU. I WILL SEE YOU ALL IN APRIL. PLEASE DO NOT CONTACT ME AT ALL FROM THIS POINT FORWARD.”
Lewis said, “Our differences began in January. Carrie became a challenge. She wanted everyone to jump through hoops for her, but she wasn’t willing to cooperate. She is very good at receiving, but not at giving. We were very patient with Carrie, but she wasn’t following ... her contract.”
