New Delhi: Test opener Murali Vijay was on Monday ruled out of the first Test against Sri Lanka in Galle.
The news was confirmed by Team India director Ravi Shastri.
"Vijay is not completely fit and since he is still under recovery, we don't want to take a chance with weather like this and slippery outfield. It is a big blow as he is an in-form player and has ability to play the long innings. We will miss his experience," said Shastri in a media interaction.

The right-hander had been nursing a hamstring strain but was expected to get fit for the first Test starting August 12.
The Tamil Nadu batsman has been among India's best Test batsmen with series of consistent scores against quality bowling attacks all over the world.
With Vijay out injured, Shikhar Dhawan and KL Rahul will now open for India in the first Test.
