New Delhi: In what could be a major blow for Sri Lankan cricket, off-spinner Tharindu Kaushal has been reported with a suspected bowling action following the third Test against India that ended at the SSC on Tuesday.
According to an ICC release, the match officials' report, which was handed over to the Sri Lankan management, cited concerns about the legality of Kaushal's action.
"Kaushal's bowling action will now be scrutinised further under the ICC process relating to suspected illegal bowling actions reported in Tests, ODIs and T20Is. He is required to undergo testing within 14 days, and, during this period, Kaushal is permitted to continue bowling in international cricket until the results of the testing are known," the release stated.
It is expected that Kaushal will be arriving in Chennai in a few days time to rectify his action at the ICC accreditated testing centre at Sri Ramachandra University. The 22-year-old was being touted as a future star for Sri Lanka, considering his good performances in 6 Tests where he has scalped 24 wickets.
Even in the recently concluded Test series against India, Kaushal troubled the Indian batting line-up with his variation and took 13 wickets from six innings.
