Sri Lanka's tour of India: Visitors recall veteran pacer Dilhara Fernando

New Delhi: Injury marred Sri Lanka recalled veteran pacer Dilhara Fernando for the upcoming Twenty20 series against India next month.

The 36-year-old Fernando, represented Sri Lanka last in 2012 and has been recalled in place of T20 specialist Lasith Malinga, who is recuperating from an injury.

The Dinesh Chandimal led side doesn't boast of very big names which face an in-form India in their own backyard. The series is expected to be a perfect preparation platform ahead of the Asia Cup and the ICC T20 2016 WC.

India are currently engaged in a three-match T20 series against Australia.

The three-match T20 series is starting on February 9 in Pune, followed by matches at Delhi and Visakhapatnam on February 12 and 14 respectively.

Fernando has played 40 Tests, 141 ODIs and 17 T20 internationals for Sri Lanka and an impressive tour can see him make the cut for the World Cup.

Sri Lanka are missing several high-profile names apart from Malinga with the likes of Angelo Mathews, Kusal Perera and Nuwan Kulasekara. It is believed that these injured players are expected to be fit and available for the World T20.

Here is the squad of Sri Lanka.

Dinesh Chandimal (C), Tillakaratne Dilshan, Seekuge Prasanna, Milinda Siriwardana, Danushka Gunathilaka, Thisara Perera, Dasun Shanaka, Asela Gunaratne, Chamara Kapugedera, Dushmantha Chameera, Dilhara Fernando, Kasun Rajitha, Binura Fernando, Sachithra Senanayake, Jeffrey Vandersay.
