Saxton Oval (Nelson)

Saxton Oval, also called Saxton Field, is located in Nelson. This purpose-built cricket oval was established in 2010.

This stadium was built by the Nelson Cricket Association after they moved from Trafalgar Park. The Oval is part of a sports complex offering a whole host of other sporting facilities.

Since its inception, this stadium has mainly witnessed domestic T20 matches. The first-ever international match to be played at the Saxton Oval was a T20 match between New Zealand and Australia women's teams.

However, the men's team finally had a chance to play at this ground when West Indies toured New Zealand in January 2014. This venue, home to the Central Districts, boasts of a good pitch, bright new pavilion and rich grass bank with temporary seating.

When New Zealand hosted the 2011 Rugby Union World Cup, Australia and Italy used the Saxton Oval as a base.
