University Oval (Dunedin)

Capacity: 6000

The University Oval is a sports ground located at Logan Park in Dunedin. Initially, the oval ground was owned by University of Otago, however, Dunedin City Council (DCC) is the present owner and operator.

The University Oval is home of Otago Cricket Association and also Highlanders Rugby football team, who use it as a training facility. Due to provisions for temporary seating, the capacity of this stadium can be expanded from 3,500 to 6,000 people.

The first Test match was held at this venue in 2008 when the home team played against Bangladesh, thereby making the University Oval, New Zealand's seventh official Test venue. However, when it hosted a second Test in the same year, the facilities at the venue came under severe criticism as considerable time was lost due to rain.

The stadium was constructed keeping in mind the highest standards of international cricket. It has a media complex at the northern end, while the historic grandstand can be found at the southern end. The Park comprises of several sports pitches for cricket, soccer and rugby.

The University Oval is lined by trees making it one of the most picturesque stadiums in New Zealand. Fans can also enjoy the cricket sitting on the grassy banks at the venue. The playing area at ground was expanded along with rotation of the pitch in 2004.
