Statistical highlights: India Vs West Indies

New Delhi: Statistical highlights of the second day`s play in the first cricket Test between India and the West Indies.

  • Virender Sehwag (55 off 46 balls) has registered his third fifty against the West Indies.
  • Sehwag`s strike rate of 119.56 balls is his highest in an innings against the West Indies when he has scored atleast 25 runs.
  • Sehwag has managed his second half-century at Feroz Shah Kotla - the highest being 74 against Zimbabwe in February 2002. After recording 63 against South Africa at Centurion in December last year, Sehwag has posted his first fifty in nine Test innings.
  • Sehwag has recorded his 50th innings of 50 or more in Tests - 22 hundreds and 28 fifties.
  • Sehwag enjoys an impressive record against West Indies - 698 runs at an average of 53.69 in eight Tests, including two hundreds and three fifties.
  • India (209) have recorded their second lowest total against West Indies at Feroz Shah Kotla, next only to the 75 in November 1987.
  • India have not been able to cross 300 in their last nine Test innings.
  • Pragyan Ojha (6/72) has recorded a career-best – his first five-wicket haul in Tests, surpassing the four for 107 against New Zealand at Ahmedabad in November last year.
  • Ojha has set an Indian record for the best bowling figures in an innings against West Indies at Feroz Shah Kotla, surpassing the 6 for 77 by Kapil Dev in 1983-84.
  • Ojha`s superb performance is the second best by an Indian left-arm bowler at Feroz Shah Kotla, next only to Vinoo Mankad`s 8 for 52 against Pakistan in October 1952.
  • John Lever`s figures of 7 for 46 for England in December 1976 are the best by a left-arm bowler against India at Feroz Shah Kotla.
  • Shivnarine Chanderpaul, thanks to his superb 118, has averaged 69.28 against India, totalling 1940 runs in 22 Tests, including seven hundreds and ten fifties.
  • Mahendra Singh Dhoni has posted four ducks this year - the most by him in a calendar year. He is the first Indian skipper to be dismissed without scoring by the opposition captain as a bowler.
  • Dhoni has now recorded seven ducks in Tests – his second against the West Indies. His record against the West Indies is far from satisfactory, aggregating 265 in 13 innings at an average of 20.38, including two fifties.
  • Rahul Dravid (54 off 111 balls) has posted his 61st half-century, equalling an Indian record held by Sachin Tendulkar. Allan Border is the only player to register more fifties (63) than Dravid and Tendulkar.
  • The last instance when two Indian spinners opened the Indian bowling was - Harbhajan Singh and Ojha against Sri Lanka at Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai in December 2009.
  • Five dismissals as LBW have been witnessed for the first time in an innings at Feroz Shah Kotla.
  • Five or more lbw dismissals in an innings have been witnessed for the fourth time in West Indies` innings against India in a Test match. In the 1994-95 Mohali Test in West Indies` first innings of 443, six lbw dismissals were registered.
  • Gautam Gambhir and Virender Sehwag have posted their first opening stand of fifty or more at Feroz Shah Kotla.
  • Sehwag and Gambhir have posted 30 stands of fifty or more for the first wicket - 10 century stands and 20 between 50 and 99 - the first Indian pair to achieve the feat.
