Taylor says `better sales` for book motive behind Ponting`s criticism of CA

Sydney: Australian cricket player Ricky Ponting`s first captain, Mark Taylor has said that he believes the once captain`s outspoken stand against Cricket Australia is to generate sales for a new book.

According to News.com.au, Taylor pointed out that it was amazing, how all of a sudden, no matter who it is, they always have plenty more to say when there is a book out there to be sold. In his candid and comprehensive 699-page autobiography, At the Close of Play, Ponting claimed Cricket Australia lacked foresight and pointed the finger at chief executive James Sutherland in particular, the report said. This has prompted an indignant response from Sutherland, who pointed out after last Thursday`s CA annual meeting that spending on high performance and the number of support staff doubled during Ponting`s time as captain, the report added. CA also released a flurry of figures highlighting the game has never been in better shape financially thanks to record television deals, had never been watched by more people in Australia thanks to the Big Bash and had record participation rates, the report further said. Taylor also said that he did not want to get involved in a fight with Ricky Ponting or James Sutherland in all of this sort of stuff, but he would like to see people like Ponting sort it out with Sutherland and Cricket Australia directly instead through the media.
