Ashes 2015: Michael Clarke praises England after 'extremely tough day'; thanks fans for support

New Delhi: Australian captain Michael Clarke, who on Friday announced that the final Ashes Test to be played The Oval will be his last, congratulated England for retaining the urn after a convincing series win at Trent Bridge.

Recalling the humiliating loss by an innings and 78 runs on the third day of the fourth Test, Clarke said on Twitter that it was a tough day for him and Australia were beaten by the hosts who were too good.

Clarke also took the opportunity to thank his well wishers who stood by him throughout his career.

While the English cricketers erupted with joy after retaining the Ashes, Clarke announced his decision to draw curtains to his international career after the fifth Test.

Clarke has been struggling to score runs in the last one year in Tests and had announced his retirement from the ODIs after Australia's World Cup winning campaign earlier this year.

In the ongoing series, he has managed to score just 117 runs from eight innings, 38 being his highest.
