The whole India team deserve Man of the Match: Kapil Dev

Chandigarh: Paceman Zaheer Khan might have got the Man of the Match award, but every member of the Indian team contributed towards the one-wicket victory over Australia in the first Test at Mohali, feels legendary all-rounder Kapil Dev.

"I would personally recommend that the entire team was a fit case for the (Man of the Match) award... Victory is not of an individual, but it is of the entire team," Kapil told reporters here.

Asked to draw parallel between the performance of Zaheer and VVS Laxman, who made a gutsy unbeaten 73 to avert defeat, Kapil said, "I would say even Ishant Sharma deserved the award. I would still say that Zaheer was the fit case for the Man of the Match award."

Meanwhile, Kapil lauded performance of Indian shooters in the Delhi Commonwealth Games and exuded confidence that they would end up with a rich bounty of medals.

"The way (Abhinav) Bindra and other shooters are performing I expect many more medals in shooting events. In future too, Bindra will excel," he said.

Abhinav Bindra and Gagan Narang yesterday fetched first gold for India, winning men`s 10-metre air rifle pairs event and the latter also defended the title in 10m air rifle event.
