Lucknow: Former India cricketer and member of 1983 World Cup winning team, Madan Lal thinks the present team is the “best” ever to represent the country and said it has the potential to win the biggest title for the second time when the event takes place in the sub-continent next year.
“The present squad have the best chance to win the next World Cup,” said Madan Lal, who was here to attend a function to showcase the Trophy for the 2011 World Cup, told reporters.
“Though the performance on the field is what really matters, this team is looking good in all departments of the game, be it batting, bowling or fielding and if they maintain the rhythm and momentum, India would definitely clinch the cup once again,” he added.
Replying to another question, the former cricketer said he did not expect major changes in the squad, which would be picked up for the next World Cup.
“There are some seven-eight players who can singlehandedly change the scenario of a game,” he said.
Asked about batting icon Sachin Tendulkar, he said, “He is in top form at the moment and people’s expectations from him are also high,” he added.
