Wizard of Oz to be revamped as a dark action thriller

London: Move over the pony tailed farm girl who is transported to a magical world with a click of her ruby slippers, the modern Dorothy in the revamped version the classic fairy tale `Wizard of Oz` will be a feisty girl slaying her own demons. The new `Wizard of Oz` which will will play out in the present day and chart the adventures of Dorothy`s granddaughter, is being produced by Warner Bros who are promising a "darker and action-packed" version of the original musical, reported a news website.

"You`ve still got Dorothy trapped in an odd place. But she`s much closer to the Ripley character from Alien, than a helpless singing girl," explains co-producer Todd McFarlane. `Secret Life of Bees` star Dakota Fanning, 15 is being considered for the lead role. The 1939 musical which catapulted Judy Garland to fame is the most watched movie in cinema history, but attempts to remake the classic have not been successful. Garland`s daughter, Liza Minelli voiced the flop cartoon version, `Journey Back to Oz` in the 60s, while Walter Murch`s ambitious `Return to Oz` bombed at the Box Office in 1985. Bureau Report
