Mumbai: Former Indian cricket captain Dilip Vengsarkar would head a state government sub-committee, which will be set up soon, for the development of sports.
Vengsarkar would be chairman of the sub-committee on ‘Sports Culture Development’, an official release said here.
The government also named heads of three other sub-committees, on traditional Indian sports, school education and sports development and adventure sports.
The panel on adventure sports will be headed by Adille Sumariwala, former athlete and the working president of the Athletics Federation of India.
Former international shuttler Pradeep Gandhe will head the panel on school education and sports development. Legislator Sambhaji Pawar will be in charge of the sub-committee on traditional Indian sports.
The appointments were announced after a meeting of a committee set up to formulate the new sports policy of the state government here on Friday.
