Mumbai: Videocon Group has expressed their interest in buying the Indian Premier League (IPL) cricket team Deccan Chargers hours after the team put itself up for sale.
"Yes, we are interested and will place our bids for buying out Deccan Chargers. It`s a good fit for our brand and will be used to connect to our consumers," Venugopal Dhoot, the chairman of Videocon Group, was quoted as saying by the Times of India.
Deccan Chargers team is currently owned by troubled newspaper publisher Deccan Chronicle Holdings Ltd (DCHL).
The team will continue to be based in Hyderabad and will compete in the IPL and has the opportunity to compete in the Champions League T20 from next year (2013). Deccan Chargers, which had won the second edition of the IPL in South Africa, finished at the bottom of the table in the last season.
