Virat Kohli's backing a major performance-enhancer: Wriddhiman Saha

New Delhi: Wriddhiman Saha took over charge of India's wicketkeeping duties in Test cricket earlier this year.

Taking MS Dhoni's place in the side was never going to be easy, but the 31-year-old has shown steady improvement after having taken over the new responsibility.

While Saha's skills behind the stumps were never in question, he definitely needs more runs under his belt to guarantee a place in India's Test side.

In an interview to the Times of India, the Bengal cricketer on Friday stated that skipper Virat Kohli's backing served as a major performance-enhancer in 2015.

"It serves as a major performance-enhancer. When you are trying to cement your place, it becomes really important to know that your captain is always behind you," Saha said.

He also revealed the tricks of the trade that he picked up from former Test skipper MS Dhoni.

"Dhoni bhai and I have had a lot of chats on keeping. What I learnt from him is how he would always follow the ball. He would know exactly where the ball would turn or bounce after pitching. So it was easier for him to effect so many stumpings," he further added.
