New Delhi: Batting legend Sachin Tendulkar on Friday revealed that as a child he had wanted to hold the Cricket World Cup trophy after India won the 1983 edition.

The owner of hundred hundreds, who was only ten years old when Kapil Dev's Devils shocked hugely favourites West Indies to lift possibly India's first major sports trophy at the Lord's on June 25, 1983.

He also reiterated the widely known fact that his brother Ajit is the reason for him playing cricket, and how he started chasing his dream.

"Without any doubt it was my brother Ajit who is the reason I started playing cricket. I wanted to become like my brother first. Then I started watching cricket matches and India won the World Cup, and I wanted to have the trophy in my hand. I started chasing my dream from there on," he said.

The 42-year-old was speaking at a promotional function in Mumbai.

He went onto lift the trophy 28 years, at his own home-ground Wankhede Stadium in 2011.
