Melbourne: Melbourne Cricket Club (MCC) will honour the Australian spin legend Shane Warne by unveiling a bronze statue of his tomorrow outside the MCG for his achievements and contribution to the game of cricket.
Warne will be immortalised in a bronze statue outside the MCG, joining 10 other Australian sports stars. Warne, who returned to cricket after signing on with the Melbourne Stars in the new Twenty20 Big Bash, will join fellow cricketers Don Bradman, Keith Miller, Bill Ponsford and Dennis Lillee at the MCG, a leading daily reported. The 42-year-old`s statue will be unveiled nearly five years to the day after his last Test at the ground, in which he took his 700th wicket and his only hat-trick. Warne enjoyed some of the greatest moments of his cricketing career at the MCG. He ended his career with 708 wickets in Test matches and 293 in One-day Internationals. The Australian retired from international cricket in January 2007 after Australia`s 5-0 Ashes series victory over England. PTI
