Basseterre: New Zealand batsman Ross Taylor struck a century in his first match after overcoming a shoulder injury but it wasn’t enough to stop West Indies from clinching the fourth ODI by 24 runs on Saturday.

With this win West Indies also pocketed the 5-match ODI series 3-1.

Winning the toss, West Indies captain Darren Sammy chose to bat first under overcast conditions and Keiron Pollard (56), Marlon Samuels (46) and some useful contribution from the order led them to a score of 264/10.

The home team had recovered after losing half of their side for 105 runs after opening batsman Chris Gayle’s (16) early dismissal.

New Zealand batsmen struggled against pacer Tino Best who claimed four wickets while “mystery spinner” Sunil Narine strangled them leaking just 20 runs besides taking two wickets in his 10 overs.

In the end, the Kiwis were all out for 240 runs.

With this win West Indies have registered an ODI series win for the first time since 2008 against a Test playing nation.

The fifth match of the series will be played on Monday.
