India in West Indies: With Lokesh Rahul waiting in wings, Cheteshwar Pujara needs to rediscover form

New Delhi: Virat Kohli-led Indian cricket team made a brilliant start in West Indies with a comprehensive win of an innings and 92 runs against the hosts.

Under new coach Anil Kumble, India started the tour on expected lines with a tried and tested unit.

While there are not many concerns in terms of selection for Jumbo and Kohli, one change which they might contemplate making, is of replacing Cheteshwar Pujara with Lokesh Rahul.

Rahul, who slammed consecutive half-centuries in warm-up matches ahead of the series, is one of the front-runners to seal a spot in the Indian Test squad.

Considering Cheteshwar Pujara's form lately in the traditional format, the think tank might not be able to hand out a long rope to the Saurashtra batsman.

Despite being one of the most technically sound batsmen in the current set up, Pujara has failed to live up to the expectations in the last few years. When India played South Africa at home last year, the 28-year-old could hit just one fifty in seven innings.

On the other hand, irrespective of the format, Rahul has made the best of the opportunities which have come his way. He already has two centuries to his name in 5 Tests.

With time running out, it remains to be seen whether Pujara can find his form in the 2nd Test beginning from July 30.
