Will review court’s order on Azhar: Rajiv ShuklaZeenews Sports Bureau

New Delhi: BCCI vice-president Rajiv Shukla said that they would go through the court’s decision, which termed the life ban on former India captain Mohammad Azharuddin illegal, and then take the next step.

Earlier on Thursday, the Andhra Pradesh High Court on Thursday termed the life ban imposed on Azhar llegal.

While responding to a plea by the former Indian captain in a match-fixing case, a division bench of Andhra High Court said that the ban was unsustainable by law.

Azhar, who was banned for life from playing all forms of cricket in 2000 by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) along with some other cricketers, appealed against the life ban imposed on him, asking the court to lift the ban.

The Hyderabadi had challenged the Indian cricket board`s decision in the City Civil Court, which upheld the ban. He then moved to high court against the lower court`s order, his lawyers arguing that the BCCI imposed the ban without any evidence.

Azaharuddin, an elegant right-hand batsman from Hyderabad, played 99 Tests and scored 6215 runs at an average of 45. He also played 334 one-dayers, accumulating 9378 runs at an average of 36.92.
