Lahore: Senior players Mohammad Yousuf, Danish Kaneria and Shoaib Malik were excluded from the Pakistan Cricket Board`s list of centrally contracted players for 2011 on Wednesday.
The three players were part of last year`s list, but failed to make the grade this time around because of a fall-out with the board and national selectors, if sources are to be believed.
The central contracts are awarded to a select list of players every year in three categories.
Those in category A are paid monthly retainers of rupees 250,000. The ones in category B get 175,000 while the players in category C get 100,000. This is besides the match fees, tour fees and other allowances and bonuses given to the players by the board.
A board official made it clear that the list was approved after clearance from the integrity committee and national selectors.
"Kaneria and Malik have still to satisfy the integrity committee members about certain things while Yousuf has not played for a while. Only those players are given central contracts that are available for Pakistan," he said.
But he made it clear that any player could be awarded a central contract once he was available or cleared for national selection.
A source, however, indicated that the omission of Yousuf was significant, and indicated the selectors didn`t see much of a future for him in Pakistan cricket now.
Yousuf, 36, a veteran of 90 Tests and 288 one-day internationals, was ignored for the World Cup because of fitness issues.
Former captain Malik, who has played 32 Tests and 192 ODIs, recently met the integrity committee members, but has still to satisfy those regarding queries about his bank accounts and assets.
Leg-spinner Kaneria, who has played in 61 Tests, is facing a similar situation as the integrity committee wants him to produce the statement he gave to the police last year while under investigation for spot-fixing during a county match.
Although the Essex police had cleared him, the board insisted Kaneria must produce the statement.
Malik and Kaneria have not played for Pakistan since the Test series in England last year while Yousuf`s last appearance was in a one-day match against South Africa.
The board has given category A contracts to Younis Khan, Shahidv Afridi, Misbah-ul-Haq, Shaoib Akhar, Kamran Akmal, Abdul Razzaq and Umar Gul.
The board has given category B contracts to Mohammad Hafeez, Umar Akmal, Abdul Rehman, Saeed Ajmal, Wahab Riaz and category C contracts to Taufiq Umar, Asad Shafiq, Azhar Ali, Ahmed Shahzad, Adnan Akmal, Junaid Khan and Tanvir Ahmed.
