Mumbai: Flamboyant middle-order batsman Yuvraj Singh, who was excluded from the Asia Cup team just a fortnight ago, made a spectacular comeback into the India`s 16-member squad for the Test series against Sri Lanka, starting July 18.
Apart from Yuvraj, struggling Delhi pacer Ishant Sharma, temperamental fast bowler S Sreesanth and Bengal stumper Wriddhiman Saha are also back in the team.
As expected, stylish middle-order batsman VVS Laxman and Test stalwart Rahul Dravid have retained their places in the team which also has Sachin Tendulkar.
Suresh Raina has also been included in the Test team.
Virender Sehwag, who was injured during the Asia Cup, is also back in the team.
But the biggest surprise in today’s selection is in the bowling department, with selectors showing faith in the out-of-form and out-of-favour paceman Ishant Sharma. Maverick seamer S Sreeshanth has also made a comeback into the side.
Instead of four fast bowlers, selectors have opted for three spinners in the team.
Offie Harbhajan Singh, leg-spinner Amit Mishra and left-arm orthodox spinner Pragyan Ojha would form the three-man spin department which is expected to play a huge role, considering the slowish nature of the Sri Lankan wicket.
Team: MS Dhoni, Pragyan Ojha, Wriddhiman Saha, Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, Yuvraj Singh, Suresh Raina, VVS Laxman, Virender Sehwag, Ishant Sharma, S Sreesanth, Harbhajan Singh, Gautam Gambhir, Zaheer Khan, Amit Mishra, Murli Vijay.
