New Delhi: India's 2011 World Cup winning hero Yuvraj Singh needs to be backed by the side in the upcoming T20 series against Australia in January 2016.
Yuvraj was drafted back into the team after some consistent performances in the Ranji and Vijay Hazare Trophy. Yuvraj helped Punjab enter the last eight of Vijay Hazare Trophy before the team lost against Himachal Pradesh.
The southpaw has been given a chance by the selectors to prove his mettle given the ICC T20 World Cup to be held in India in March 2016. Alongside veterans Harbhajan Singh and Ashish Nehra, Yuvraj saw the selectors backing experience for the crucial series.
Coming back to the side was pivotal for Yuvraj Singh and he has three T20 matches in Australia to showcase the weight of his return.
Skipper MS Dhoni needs to back the dashing batsman as Yuvi will hope he gets a chance to feature in the side. Yuvraj's presence in the team could be an added bonus in the middle order given his match winning attributes.
Yuvraj recently stated that the dressing room needs to have belief in him and rightly so he deserves the chance to get out in the middle and deliver.
India's performance against South Africa recently in the T20 series at home was pretty poor. Dhoni will be eager to try out Yuvraj to see the side get much needed balance and depth in the batting order.
Yuvraj's spell would be important given his experience and pedigree just like Harbhajan Singh.
After the series against Australia, India will play Sri Lanka and the T20 Asia Cup as it will be a perfect manner for skipper MS Dhoni to know what Yuvraj can offer.
It will be interesting to see whether the Indian team management set out the carpet for Yuvraj to go and perform fearlessly in the middle. India have some proven names in the side and Yuvraj's addition makes it stronger.
Just like fellow Punjab spinner Harbhajan, Yuvi will be hungry to give his best and seal a place in the team as that could see him be in the frame of making a return in ODIs too.
