Get ready for the big daddy of sci-fi flicks ‘Avatar’

Think of the celebrated Hollywood director, producer and writer, James Cameron and what comes to the mind is the impact of the timeless sci-fi cult movies such as ‘The Terminator’ and ‘Aliens’ – a class act that gave a new interpretation to the genre of sci-fi thereby opening new vistas of imagination and creativity which gave mankind a sneak-peek into the distant future – a new world order where mankind battles Aliens and technology. Once again, the feted craftsmen is making waves courtesy his latest sci-fi offering ‘Avatar’ which is all set to release on 18th December 2009. Made on a staggering budget of 237 million US dollars, ‘Avatar’ is touted as Cameron’s dream project post ‘Titanic’ and a mega-venture that promises to be extraordinary. The flick boasts of state-of-the-art 3D technology backed by 3D Fusion Camera System, something that takes the craft of cinematography to a different plane of consciousness. ‘Avatar’ is the story of a utopian world where a former marine Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) gets paralyzed in action during a war on Earth. He eventually gets chosen for the Avatar program, a technology that promises to him to Pandora - the land of Na’vi on moon that is inhabited by a race of evolutionary advanced blue humanoids and infuses you with a life steering capability. The Na’vi are a demure tribe living in their pristine territory until humans encroach their space thereby leading the former to wage a hellish war against mankind. Rest of the film traces an apocalyptic epic battle between Na’vi and Earthlings. On 21st August, the slick promos of ‘Avatar’ hit the Hollywood theatres - something that became an instant rage among every sci-fi fan, who got bowled over by its gripping teasers. Written, produced and directed by Cameron, ‘Avatar’ takes sci-fi films to a far superior level as it boasts of cutting edge technology coupled with computer-generated scenes coalesced by live imagery courtesy stereoscopic filming that builds a lifelike virtual world. Mind you that ‘Avatar’ is not your typical 3D flick where the audience sits with their coloured glasses on to decipher the illusion of depth in the scenes but an amalgamation of computer generated images (CGI) along with motion capturing technique which later on can be added with special effects. In this way, one can tweak the viewpoint in the virtual world with a single click of the mouse! This is a rare feat for any 3D movie as it gives a rare opportunity to transform the digital world with real time shot. In this way, one can imagine the most unthinkable 3D special effects so far in any sci-fi movie. On the whole, 18th December 2009 is the most anticipated date for the sci-fi freaks. After ‘The Terminator’, ‘Terminator 2’, ‘Rambo: First Blood Part II’, ‘Aliens’ and ‘Titanic’, the prodigy is once again back with his phenomenal movie ‘Avatar’.
