Dhawal Kulkarni strikes with the new ball! He has trapped Wriddhiman Saha in front of the wickets. The umpire took his time before raising finger. Harbhajan Singh has walked to the middle. Saha scored 17 (19b, 4X4). ==================================================================================== RoI Overs: 86 II Score: 323/4 (Raina: 33*, Saha: 13*) RoI have creamed Sharma’s fifth over for 14 runs – 12 of them scored in boundaries. All three boundaries came from the bat of Saha. Wasim Jaffer has made up for the catch he dropped of Rayudu earlier! A quicker delivery from Rohit Sharma and Rayudu went for a cut. He ends up edging it to Jaffer at first slip who this time manages to hold on to it safely. Rayudu scored 51 (83b, 4X9). Wriddhiman Saha is the new batsman in the middle. ==================================================================================== RoI Overs: 80 II Score: 302/3 (Rayudu: 46*, Raina: 30*) The current partnership between Raina and Rayudu is now worth 71 runs. Two boundaries came in the last two overs – both by Rayudu. The first came in the over of Dabholkar over midwicket while the next came in the next over bowled by Rohit Sharma. ==================================================================================== RoI Overs: 78 II Score: 291/3 (Rayudu: 36*, Raina: 29*) Just three runs have come off the last three overs after the rush in the overs between 70 and 75. Rohit Sharma introduced into the attack and could have got a wicket of his first but for Wasim Jaffer who grassed a sitter at first slip after Rayudu edged a quicker one. ==================================================================================== RoI Overs: 75 II Score: 288/3 (Rayudu: 33*, Raina: 29*) In the past five overs, RoI batsmen have scored at the rate of seven an over! One can get easily deceived into believing that this is a limited over game. Off the 71th over, RoI collected 10 runs including boundary by Rayudu. In the next again with the help of a boundary (by Raina) off the final delivery they collected seven runs. Chavan came to bowl his fourth over replacing Nayar and conceded a boundary to Raina off his final delivery. Five runs came in it. In the next over, Rayudu cut one from Kulkarni past the slip region for his sixth boundary. The 75th over saw Raina launching Chavan into the stands with a six over long-off. Off the next he scored a couple and a boundary in the next took him to 28. He took a single off the next. 13 runs came in the over. ==================================================================================== RoI Overs: 70 II Score: 251/3 (Rayudu: 20*, Raina: 5*) Abhishek Nayar has removed the set batsman Murali Vijay! Nayar leading from the front! He gets the big fish! An inswinging delivery from Nayar and it went through his gates to crash on the stumps. He scored 116 (206b, 4X17, 6X1). Mumbai got a wicket immediately after the brief short Tea break. His wicket brought Suresh Raina to the crease. In the 69th over there was a huge appeal for a lbw but it was pitched outside leg so umpire turned it down. In the next over bowled by Thakur, Rayudu collected 10 runs – eight of them in boundaries. ==================================================================================== RoI (TEA) Overs: 62 II Score: 231/2 ( Vijay: 116*, Rayudu: 5*) It's Tea! Murali Vijay has continued playing without any trouble. He has slammed his second Irani century of the season. Mumbai, on the other hand, have picked two wickets – Dhawan and Tiwary. Dhawan was bowled by Thakur while Tiwary was trapped in front by Nayar. ==================================================================================== RoI Overs: 58.6 II Score: 222/2 ( Vijay: 112*, Rayudu: 0*) OUT! Manoj Tiwary has been dismissed after being adjudged lbw off Nayar! Tiwary stood at the crease for a long time before walking off. Can’t say whether he was unhappy with the decision or he felt disappointed. He scored 37 (67b, 4X7). It was an angled delivery and Tiwary was way across to play his shot and missed it. ==================================================================================== RoI Overs: 55 II Score: 211/1 ( Vijay: 109*, Tiwary: 31*) Six boundaries scored by the RoI batsmen in the last five overs with a majority of them coming from the bat of Tiwary. The first of these came in the 51st over bowled by Dabholkar which was a result of a drive played by Tiwary. Off the next over by Nayar, Vijay scored two boundaries – the first via an edge while the next a confident stroke through point region. Tiwary collected two boundaries in the next over of Javed Khan by hitting his first and third delivery to the fence. Tiwary, who looked a bit out of place at the beginning seemed to grow in confidence with every passing over. This was reflected in his boundary scored off Dabholkar that he played after stepping out of his crease. ==================================================================================== RoI Overs: 50 II Score: 184/1 ( Vijay: 100*, Tiwary: 13*) Murali Vijay has recorded his second century of the Irani Trophy this season. He reached the milestone in style sending one on his legs to wide of mid-on for boundary. He has placed his claim for a berth in the Indian squad for the upcoming Australian series. Batting alongside him is Manoj Tiwary, another contender who so far has been shaky surviving close calls for lbw. ==================================================================================== RoI Overs: 47 II Score: 170/1 ( Vijay: 86*, Tiwary: 13*) One has lost count of how many times has Mumbai appealed for a lbw against Manoj Tiwary. In the 46th over bowled by Nayar, Tiwary began the proceedings scouring a four off the first. Off the next there was a huge appeal for lbw which eventually was turned down. Off the next, Tiwary responded in style driving it through mid off for four. The next delivery hit him on the front pad but again he was adjudged not out on account of the impact being outside off. Eight runs came in the over. The 47th over saw Vijay adding another boundary to his total. ==================================================================================== RoI Overs: 42 II Score: 149/1 ( Vijay: 79*, Tiwary: 1*) A loud appeal for a caught behind as Manoj Tiwary comes forward to a length ball from Nayar. The ball hits the pad and flies to the keeper. Umpire turns it down. Just a single from the over. In the previous over of Thakur, Tiwary survived a close shout for lbw as umpire reckoned there was an inside edge. ==================================================================================== RoI Overs: 38.1 II Score: 144/1 ( Vijay: 76*, Tiwary: 0*) OUT! Dhawan should be kicking himself for this shot! Dhawan loses his focus and goes after a wide delivery from Thakur. The ball crashes on the stumps after taking an indie edge. He scored 63 (101b, 4X11). In comes Manoj Tiwary. ==================================================================================== RoI (AT LUNCH) Overs: 35 II Score: 130/0 (Dhawan: 58*, Vijay: 67*) A fitting end to the first session of the play as Dhawan pulls a short one from Khan to midwicket for a boundary. That shot took the spoils from the over to eight. Two boundaries came in it. This has been a session dominated by the RoI batsmen. They were asked to bat after losing the toss but they have been on top and go into lunch with all their 10 wickers intact while posting 130 runs. ==================================================================================== RoI Overs: 30 II Score: 114/0 (Dhawan: 50*, Vijay: 60*) Both the openers have reached their half-centuries. The score has now crossed the 100-run mark. Off this 30th over bowled by Kulkarni, Dhawan collected six runs including a boundary over midwicket region that also brought up his fifty. Both Viajy and Dhawan have looked in fine touch. ==================================================================================== RoI Overs: 20 II Score: 69/0 (Dhawan: 29*, Vijay: 37*) RoI are off to a good start after being asked to bat first by Mumbai on Day 1. Dabholkar bowled a good 20th over having Vijay, who has looked good so far, guessing. His third was left alone while off the penultimate delivery an appeal for lbw was made. However, it was turned down. ==================================================================================== RoI Overs: 10 II Score: 34/0 (Dhawan: 18*, Vijay: 14*) Consecutive boundaries for Shikhar Dhawan in the over bowled by Shradul Thakur. The first one came off a full length delivery past the non-strikers’ end while the second came off a full toss going past the bowler. 12 runs came in the over. ==================================================================================== RoI Overs: 2 II Score: 4/0 (Dhawan: 3*, Vijay: 0*) So Dhawal Kulkarni and Javed Khan have opened the bowling for Mumbai. The bad news for ROI is that Virender Sehwag is down with illness and has been excluded from the final playing XI. After two overs, RoI are 4/0. ==================================================================================== TOSS: Mumbai have won the toss and elected to bowl first. For Rest of India, Harbhajan Singh instead of Virender Sehwag came out for toss. The five-day Irani Cup match between Mumbai and the Rest of India, commencing at the Wankhede Stadium on Monday, offers a good chance for some India rejects to press for recalls and other aspirants to showcase their talent in front of the national selectors.
