Thiruvananthapuram: Former BCCI secretary S K Nair on Sunday blamed Kerala Cricket Association for the cancellation of ODI between India and Australia in Kochi, saying KCA should have anticipated weather situation and put in proper arrangements.

The series opener was called off due to persistent rains.

Nair said if the match could not take place mainly due to the flaws in the drainage system at the Jawaharlal Nehru International stadium.

"However, the KCA should have anticipated this problem and put in place effective measures to overcome this problem," Nair said.

"This was not for the first time that an international match was planned in Kochi. In the past matches, the organisers had been able to successfully overcome whatever problems that came in the way. This time too, the organisers should have put in place a plan to overcome the hitches," Nair said.

Reacting to Nair`s charge, KCA sceretary T C Mathew said only torrential rains, lashed the city in the previous days, were responsible for the cancellation.

"Now there is a move by certain quarters to haunt KCA as what has happened in the case of the Commonwealth Games. But no one need to entertain any hope that KCA could be destroyed by such moves," Mathew said in Kochi.

He, however, said KCA was ready to take all the responsibility for what had happened.

Referring to Nair`s charge that there was mistake in fixing the order of the ODI series for Kochi, Mathew said the schedule for the match was decided a year back.

Since then, KCA had been doing all that was possible to hold the match successfully, he said.
