New Delhi: All India Football Federation (AIFF) president Praful Patel on Sunday invited I-League club owners and Reliance-IMG officials for a meeting to be held in Mumbai on Friday.
According to a report in the Times of India, Patel's email stated that only owners, presidents or senior decision makers of clubs should attend the meeting.
“I think it will be too early to discuss any talk of a merger which, to my eyes, is just not possible. Why should the I-League clubs agree to merge?
What the AIFF will certainly do is reassure I-League club owners that their interests will continue to be protected,” a club owner was quoted as saying in the report.
With stakeholders of I-League and ISL attending the meeting, there is growing speculation of whether a discussion on a possible merger of the two entities will be held.
Several other concerns of clubs owners like role of IMG-Reliance in promoting I-League and AIFF's roadmap for the league will be raised.
The recent turmoil in Indian football witnessed two clubs – Pune FC and Bharat FC heading for the exit door of the I-League.
With their future still uncertain, Patel and AIFF will be expected to address this critical issue when club owners meet.
