Alexis Sanchez set to complete Arsenal move

New Delhi: Arsenal are on the verge of signing winger Alexis Sanchez from Barcelona. The deal has been agreed in principle by both the clubs and the Chile international will cost the Gunners £35m. Sanchez has also agreed personal clubs with the North London club.

The Chilean, who had a very good World Cup, joined the Catalan club from Serie A side Udinese in 2011. During his three years at Nou Camp, the 25-year-old scored 43 goals in 119 appearances.

Arsenal being the only big club in Premier League to not have done any business in the summer, are also looking to sign Mathieu Debuchy from Newcastle United. The right-back position has been left vacant at the club after Bacary Sagna left for Manchester City.

Liverpool had been attempting to use Luiz Suarez`s transfer to get cash plus Sanchez from Barcelona. But now Arsenal are clealry in the driving seat to complete the move for the winger in a straight cash transfer as soon as some minor details are sorted out.

Arsene Wenger was working on a television assignment for the World Cup in Brazil, where he had an interaction with the Chile star to discuss a potential move. Arsenal are looking to bolster their team with key signings for the new season as their campaign collapsed in the second half of the 2013-14.
