Andre Villas-Boas backs ageing Chelsea stars

London: Chelsea coach Andre Villas-Boas is backing his golden oldies to deliver the expected titles in the 2011-12 season.

Villas-Boas has inherited one of the oldest squads in the Premier League, with nine players in their 30s.

According to a daily, Villas-Boas, speaking after 4-0 win against Thailand All Stars, countered: "These players still have a lot to offer.”

"Just look at the trophies they have won and how successful they have been. Chelsea are the second or third oldest team in the Premier League and I must respect the recovery periods of the older players,” he said.

"So, I must find the correct balance between experience and youth and find out what kind of game we can play," he added while responding to Manchester United chief Ferguson’s claim that sooner than later Chelsea would have to think of a squad change to keep its title hopes alive.
