Anti-racism group chief branded a racist for calling an Asian fan a coconut

London: The executive director of Football Against Racism in Europe (FARE), Piara Powar, has been branded a racist for calling an Asian fan a “coconut”.
Replying to a Liverpool fan`s Twitter comment about a football fan`s arrest, Indian-origin Powar said: “Get lost Singh. Don`t be a coconut.” According to the Daily Mail, Liverpool fan Parmjit Singh, 34, had tweeted @piarapower: “Interesting how u haven`t given your opinion on the news that a £mufc fan was arrested on Wednesday for alleged racial abuse.” Singh was referring to Manchester United fan Howard Hobson, 57, who was fined 200 pounds for chanting racist abuse at a Black Stoke City player during a match on January 31. The alleged racial comment stems from a coconut being brown on the outside and white on the inside. Singh, a postman from the West Midlands, said he was appalled by Powar`s comments and has branded him a ``hypocrite``. Bureau Report
