Bagan aim to finish on a high against Indian Arrows

Mohun Bagan aim to finish their I-League campaign on a high.

New Delhi: Mohun Bagan will aim to finish their I-League campaign on a high as they take on Indian Arrows in their concluding encounter at the Tau Devilal Stadium in Gurgaon on Sunday.

For Bagan, it will be a case of how their coach Subhash Bhowmick can motivate the boys to give their best shot one last time in the season. With 34 points from 25 games, Bagan are currently placed fifth. A win would ensure that they would hold on to their position as Pune FC and Mumbai FC are close on their heels for a top-five finish. With their talismanic striker Jose Ramirez Barreto already back in Brazil for an extended break, the onus will again be on the strike force of Edeh Chidi and Subair Murithala Ali who have blown hot and cold this season.
For Indian Arrows, currently placed 10th in the league table with 26 points, it will be a chance to finish with a flourish which will definitely boost the morale of the young guns who have fought admirably well against experienced outfits with quality foreigners in their ranks.
The Arrows would certainly like to log home full points from the match. With no Deepak Mondal in the defence, the back-four of the green-and-maroon brigade who have conceded no less than 27 goals this season will be on high alert."Injuries hit us hard in the season. But when you take charge of a club midway into the season, you have to deal with it," Bhowmick made a candid confession on the eve of the match.
Even Arrows coach Desmond Bulpin feels that his boys could have been placed better in the league standings had they not lost some key players mid-season.
"Midway into the season, we lost some players- three due to chicken-pox; then injuries played spoilsport. Otherwise, we could have finished a few notches higher," Bulpin commented.
