New Delhi: Midfield maestro Xavi Hernandez will leave his childhood club Barcelona at the of end of the current season, according to AS.com. The report said that the 35-year-old has signed a three-year contract with Qatari club Al Sadd.

Regarded as one of the greatest mid-fielders of the game, Xavi came through the famed Barcelona academy, La Masia and went onto contribute in the rise of tiki-taka, prominently a possession game made famous by the Spanish giants.

He will fill the void left former Real Madrid star Raul Gonzalez at Al Sadd, and he is expected to earn at least 10 million euros in the annual salary alone. It's also believed that besides turning up for the club, the play-maker will act as an adviser to the Aspire Academy, besides pursuing his plans to acquire coaching license.

The Aspire Academy is headed by general director Ivan Bravo, the former director of Real Madrid.

By joining Al Sadd, Xavi has snubbed offers from Major League Soccer clubs. If he sees out a fourth year with the club, the World Cup winner will earn another 10 million euros.

Since the arrival of Luis Enrique at the helm of Barcelona, Xavi's prominence in the team has seemingly reduced and have seen very limited outing for the Catalans. And rumour mills have been working overtime predicting the captain's departure from Camp Nou.

Qatar will host the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
