Brussels: Koen Casteels, Belgium`s third-choice goalkeeper, will miss the World Cup after breaking his shinbone, his German team Hoffenheim confirmed on Monday.
Hoffenheim revealed on Twitter that Casteels, 21, will undergo surgery in Berlin and is expected to be out of action for several months. Casteels was stretched off in the 73rd minute of Sunday`s Bundesliga clash with Hertha Berlin, after colliding with Colombian Adrian Ramos. After striker Christian Benteke (Achilles tendon), Casteels is the second Belgian ruled out of the June 12-July 13 tournament in Brazil in the past week. Belgium will face South Korea, Algeria and Russia in the group stages at the World Cup in Brazil. They were placed among the top seeds following a dramatic resurgence sparked in part by Benteke, who forms a vibrant attack with Romelu Lukaku and Eden Hazard.
