Bernard is new coach of Mohun Bagan

Kolkata: Mohun Bagan football club on Saturday accepted the resignation of coach Steve Darby and appointed former Nigerian footballer Bernard Operanazie in the Englishman`s place.

Bernard was working as an assistant coach under Darby, who submitted his resignation this morning, as club authority appointed a three member technical committee comprising Olympian Chuni Goswami and former internationals Prasanta Banerjee and Satyajit Chatterjee. Stating that this was unacceptable, Darby said in his resignation letter, "this has created a lot of mental pressure on me which I can`t accept". Informing the appointment of Bernard, Mohun Bagan secretary Anjan Mitra said that whoever was appointed coach of the club, he would have to work under the committee. PTI
