Blackout at Yuba Bharati Krirangan just after match
Kolkata: In a shocking embarrassment to the organisers of the FIFA international friendly which was won by Argentina, the post-match press conference of Venezuela was cancelled midway because of load-shedding.
The match went off smoothly at the Yuba Bharati Krirangan without any power tripping but the blackout during the media conference meant that the 120,000 capacity stadium kept its date with the load-shedding, a familiar occurrence in the past.
As the press conference hall suddenly turned into total darkness, Venezuela coach Cesar Farias and his team bid the media men goodbye and left midway. There were more organisational mess at the press conference hall as the crowd, including singer Babul Supriyo, tried to barge in, leading to heated arguments of some with the organisers.
As the journalists objected the entry of Supriyo, who even asked a question at the press conference of Argentine coach Alejandro Sabella, the singer clarified that he had come there in his official capacity.
"I write a column in a website. I have the right to come here," Supriyo shot back amid some heated exchanges, as coach Sabella looked in a daze.
The Salt Lake stadium is notorious for its power trippings in the past as India`s World Cup qualifier against Japan in 2004 was hit badly by load-shedding.
