Cardiff manager Mackay misses news conference

London: Cardiff City manager Malky Mackay was absent from the club`s weekly news conference on Friday amid widespread media speculation that he was to be sacked by Malaysian owner Vincent Tan.

British newspapers reported an unsourced claim that Tan had ordered Mackay to resign, or be sacked, due to the owner`s disappointment with several aspects of his management.

Mackay was due to hold a routine news conference to preview Saturday`s match against Liverpool but instead assistant manager David Kerslake is to be in the chair.

Cardiff officials have also banned journalists from tweeting or phoning live reports from the news conference, which was due to start at around 1000 GMT.
