Carrick extends Man Utd deal to 2014
London: Manchester United central midfielder Michael Carrick on Thursday signed a new three-year contract with the Premier League leaders, committing him to the club until 2014.
The 29-year-old has struggled for form this season but was selected to start United`s most recent game, a 2-1 defeat at Chelsea on Tuesday.
"I am thoroughly enjoying my time at this great club," said Carrick.
"There is a fantastic team spirit within the squad and I am pleased to have committed my future to United."
Carrick joined United from Tottenham in 2006 and has since collected three Premier League titles and a Champions League trophy.
Despite the setback at Chelsea, Carrick believes United remain on course for silverware this season.
"We are in a very good position at the moment and I am confident this team will be successful for many years to come," said the England international.
Carrick joins left-back Patrice Evra and evergreen winger Ryan Giggs in electing to prolong his stay at Old Trafford in recent weeks.
"I am delighted Michael has signed a new contract," said United coach Sir Alex Ferguson.
"He has been outstanding since joining us from Tottenham in 2006. He is a true professional and it is great he has committed his future to the club."
