Chelsea defender Ivanovic tells senior players to stop being ‘selfish’
London: Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic has said unsettled senior players should think of the club first and shouldn’t behave selfishly.
Ivanovic fears the mutiny in the Chelsea dressing room might put at risk the club’s effort to save their dismal season from being a total catastrophe.
“We have a lot of things wrong at Chelsea and the only way we can solve them is for everyone to do the right thing and put the club first,” The Sun quoted Ivanovic, as saying.
“This has been the hardest moment of my four years here and it is more important than the relationship between the manager and the players,” he said.
“Chelsea has to be the priority for everybody. We all have to think like this to try to make the position better,” Ivanovic added.
Ivanovic urged all Chelsea players to back manager Andre Villas-Boas decisions, which would lead them to a possible recovery.
“Things like this always happen when you are losing and they always leak out. But it is the manager who decides who plays and then it is up to us players to do our jobs,” he said.
“We have not won a lot of games recently and our confidence is not in the best way. This is a critical period for this club and we will only get through it if we stay positive and keep working hard,” he added.
