Chelsea fan racism 'unacceptable': John Terry

London: Chelsea captain John Terry on Saturday added his voice to condemnation of a racist incident involving the club`s supporters in Paris earlier this week, describing it as "unacceptable".

Chelsea have banned five people from their Stamford Bridge ground after footage emerged showing fans preventing a black man from boarding a Paris metro train on Tuesday and chanting racist songs.

Writing in the match programme for Chelsea`s Premier League home game with Burnley, Terry -- who was himself banned and fined for racially abusing an opponent in 2012 -- said: "Football is a sport for everyone.

"That is one of the main reasons why we love it, and what happened on the Paris Metro was unacceptable. The club has reacted quickly to deal with the situation and will continue to do so."

A man, identified by French media as Souleymane S, was repeatedly prevented from boarding the crowded train by a group of Chelsea fans, who then sang: "We`re racist, we`re racist, and that`s the way we like it!"

The incident, which sparked widespread condemnation and police investigations in Britain and France, occurred before Chelsea`s 1-1 Champions League draw against Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday.

Chelsea chairman Bruce Buck also expressed dismay over the incident, describing what had happened as "a crossroads" for the club.

"Despite there only being a small group of individuals involved, it showed there is still work to be done to eradicate discrimination -- in all its forms," Buck wrote in the programme.

"We are determined to do all we can to wipe it out."

Chelsea`s meeting with Burnley was already scheduled to be the club`s annual `Game for Equality` and players including Terry wore T-shirts sporting anti-racism and anti-homophobia logos in the warm-up.

A banner was also displayed by home fans that read: "BLACK OR WHITE, WE`RE ALL BLUE!"

British police have announced they are investigating a complaint that a group of Chelsea supporters chanted racist songs at a London train station after returning from Paris on Wednesday.
