Chelsea `opens gate` for Mourinho`s return
London: Chelsea has given strong hints about the prospect of Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho returning to the club in the summer after his contract expires at Madrid and also strongly defended boss Roman Abramovich`s `ruthless` treatment of managers.

Mourinho has regularly expressed his desire to return to the Premier League and openly talked in recent weeks about his `big emotional connection` with Chelsea.

Hinting at Mourinho`s return, Chelsea chairman Bruce Buck said that he is completely open-minded to the prospect of past managers returning to the club, adding that Abramovich is actively considering his plans for when current interim manager Rafael Benitez`s contract expires at the end of the season.

Buck further said that the real search for a manager will begin once the season ends in the middle of May.

Meanwhile, Buck had defended Abramovich`s strict rule on managers, saying that although the Chelsea owner is searching for his 10th manager in 10 years, it is because of Chelsea`s value on managerial stability.

Pointing out the club`s record of winning 10 major trophies during the past decade, Buck further said that the club`s termination of a manager`s contract is done for the good of the club, adding that the system has worked out well whenever they had brought in a new manager.

Benitez is already resigned to leaving Chelsea, even though he could still lead the club to a top-four finish and an FA Cup and Europa League double, the report added.
