Churchill favourite against HAL in I-League match
Margao: Churchill Brothers would look to put behind their last match defeat and go for a win when they lock horns with HAL Bangalore on Saturday in the 20th round of the I-League at Nehru Stadium.
Churchill Brothers are feeling the heat after their loss to Mumbai FC in their last match which pushed them to fifth place with 33 points from 18 matches. They have played one match less than Dempo who are at the top with 40 points.
The Goa outfit had at one stage displaced Dempo from the top slot. Their coach Manuel Gomes is now under tremendous pressure to ensure his outfit performs well. Gomes was absent from Friday`s practice session.
Team manager Denzil Ferrao, who is looking after the team in Gomes` absence, said he has a full strength team at his disposal and will be going all out for a win to keep themselves in race for the title.
"We are playing well but have been missing scoring chances. I hope this trend is reversed as a defeat further will spell doom to our chances of winning the title for the second time," stated Ferrao.
"We need to remain more focused and win. We have the advantage over our rival as we have beaten them in the first leg and also have the home advantage."
Hopefully, the boys will convert the half chances and collect full points which will help us to remain close to the table topper Dempo," concluded Ferrao.
HAL, who have won only one match, are at the bottom with 6 points from 19 ties. They are on the verge of facing relegation and will have to come up with something special to pull off a surprise win.
HAL coach Ramalingam Thyagraj said beating Churchill at home will be a difficult task "but we have chalked out a plan to contain them".
