Panaji: The former JCT gaffer is reportedly close to signing a one-year deal with the I-League champions after Subash Bhowmick decided to part ways.
Churchill Brothers have wasted no time in identifying a successor for Subhash Bhowmick at the club. The former East Bengal coach departed the I-League champions after allegedly having major differences of opinion with owner Churchill Alemao.
The Red Machine have identified 63-year old Sukhwinder Singh as the man to lead the Goans’ title defence next year.
“We have made Sukhwinder Singh an offer but he is yet to get back to us. I think he should be in a position to confirm in the next couple of days,” Churchill Brothers boss Churchill Alemao said on Tuesday.
“Sukhwinder is a coach with proven abilities. He worked wonders with JCT, had some good results with the India team as well, besides his man-management skills, we have heard, are good. He will be good handling a champion team like ours,” added Alemao.
The former India coach is said to be consulting his children in Canada over the offer, but has made it clear that he is interested in taking the job.
“The contribution of the Churchill family (towards Indian football) does not need any reminding. It will be an honour to coach them,” said Sukhwinder, who won the inaugural National Football League (NFL) with JCT Mills in 1996-97.
Alemao also took time to comment on the reason why Subhash Bhowmick left the club after leading the Goan club to an I-League title.
“We had given Bhowmick a contract which had certain clauses. He had to agree to those conditions before he could continue as coach. That did not happen,” explained the club supremo.
