Colaco rubbishes accusations of foul play in Dempo-AI clash

Dempo coach has ruled out any foul play in the club`s 14-0 demolition of Air India.

Margao: Dempo coach Armando Colaco has ruled out any foul play in the club`s 14-0 demolition of Air India in the I-League two days ago and termed those accusations as foolish.
"It`s foolish to say that there was some sort of understanding between the teams," Colaco said. "We lost to Air India 4-0 earlier and since then we have been nursing a grudge against them. We had a score to settle and when the opportunity provided things simply clicked for us. It was like every move of ours had turned into a goal," he said. In what was a must-win match for them, Dempo had walloped Air India 14-0, the biggest victory margin ever in the I-League, which did not go well with the Salgaocar fans, who suspected foul play. The match also led to a huge debate amongst the club`s fans.`Dempo fixed 14-0 to finish as loser` read a banner atop a Maruti car that was later removed by a Goa Football Association official during Salgaocar`s victory rally here yesterday. After Salgaocar claimed the title by defeating JCT 2-0, a club official stated, "It was destiny that Salgaocar should win the title and that happened after they beat JCT 2-0, which put aside the result of the match between Dempo and Air India no matter what the scoreline read."
