Crucial match for Churchill against United
Margao: On a roll after beating East Bengal, the relegation-threatened Churchill Brothers will be looking to collect full points against United Sports Club in a return match of the I-League here on Saturday.
Churchill Brothers, who did well in the Federation Cup to win the title, were struggling for form before a win against East Bengal in their last match and Mohammedan Sporting loss against Shillong Lajong gave them a fresh lease of life.
They are now on 22 points from 22 matches, one point above bottom-placed Mohammedan Sporting who are almost sure to get relegated as they have only one match in hand.
Churchill, on the other hand, now need three points from their two remaining matches, a win will see them avoid the drop.
United Sports, which has 23 points from 22 matches, is the other team fighting relegation and needs a point from its remaining two matches to avoid relegation.
Churchill will be missing Satish Singh in tomorrow`s match due to a double booking and coach Mariano Dias will be looking for a repeat show tomorrow against United Sports Club to pull them out of the relegation.
"They showed lot of urgency in their attack and gave everything to overcome East Bengal and tomorrow they go with the same confidence against United SC and try to collect full points, and unsure that we move out of the relegation battle," Stated Dias.
United Sports Club, who drew against Mohan Bagan, are still in the danger of relegation and now need a point in their next two matches. The team, which has beaten Churchill Brothers in the first leg, is not the same after Ranti Martins left it.
In his absence, United will rely on Eric Brown and new striker Waheed Adekunle to pull them out from the relegation zone.
