Delhi thrash Orissa 6-1 to qualify for Santosh pre-quarters

Delhi fought back from a goal down to thrash Orissa 6-1 and qualify for the pre-quarterfinals of the 65th Senior National Football Championship for Santosh Trophy.

Nagaon (Assam): Delhi fought back from a goal down to thrash Orissa 6-1 and qualify for the pre-quarterfinals of the 65th Senior National Football Championship for Santosh Trophy,on Monday.
Striker Kamal Rawat (27 and 78 minutes), captain Mahender Kumar (70 and 74) and defender Vikas Rawat (52 and 85) struck two goals each as Delhi emerged comfortable winners. On a high after their 4-1 drubbing of Himachal Pradesh, Delhi were shocked when Mahesh took full advantage of a defensive lapse by Pushepender Kundu and Nitin silly to put Orissa in lead on the 12th minute. The lead didn`t last long as Mahender struck the equaliser 15 minutes later by converting Asish Pandey`s pass. Delhi shifted gears after the change of ends as Vikas latched on to a cross from medio Bhuvan Joshi to make it 2-1. Kamal consolidated Delhi`s position by scoring twice in the space of four minutes, before Mahender made it 5-1.Vikas completed the rout when he converted a spot-kick in the 85th mintute, after Ashu Nathani was brought down by an Orissa defender inside the box. Delhi will take on Services in the pre-quarterfinals on May 18. PTI
