Madrid: Deportivo La Coruna on Saturday defeated Jaen 1-0 in a Segunda division match to pave way for a return to the top-flight league, La Liga next season. Carlos Marchena, who had won the World Cup and Euro with the Spanish national team, scored the lone goal at the Riazor Stadium to give the former champions their 19th win of the season on the penultimate day of the season. After match-day 41, Deportivo on 69, are behind leaders Eibar by a solitary point and six clear of Barcelona B in third place. The 2003-04 Champions League semi-finalists were relegated from the top flight league last season after finishing second bottom. Depor`s promotion bid had seemingly stumbled in recent weeks following four win-less outings, which included three draws and one defeat. Depor famously won the league title in the 1999–2000 season. Besides the league title, they had finished as runners up five times, won the Spanish Cup twice, and three Spanish Super Cups in a chequered history which has seen the Blues and Whites relegated twice in the last three seasons.
