New Delhi: Football legend Diego Maradona finds himself embroiled in yet another controversy. A television show in his native Argentina aired a video of him hitting Rocio Oliva, his ex-girlfriend.
The video, shot on a mobile phone by Oliva herself, was aired on the television programme "Nosotros al Mediodia."
The 24-year-old woman was using her mobile phone, which annoyed the football legend. He then proceeded towards her and slapped her.
Despite her denouncing the 53-year-old multiple times in media for gender violence, Oliva never dragged the troubled Argentine to court.
As soon as the video was aired on national television in Argentina, Maradona immediately texted media members saying he has “never raised his hand” against a woman. But he did agree to knocking off the mobile phone from the hands of Oliva.
The two shared a volatile relationship while they were together, with Maradona even filing plea in a Dubai court to trigger an arrest warrant against Oliva for alleged robbery. He has since withdrawn that plea.
