East Bengal, Mohun Bagan make u-19 final leg

Kolkata: East Bengal and Mohun Bagan
finished first and second respectively in their group to
qualify for the all-India leg of the U-19 football tournament
for I-League teams.

East Bengal rode on a double strike by Pankaj Molla to
defeat arch-rivals Mohun Bagan 2-0 at the Yuba Bharati
Krirangan here today.

The win helped East Bengal (9 points) top the group with
three wins from three matches. Mohun Bagan (6) finished second
in the preliminary round from the Kolkata group with two wins
from three matches.

In another group league match at Howrah Stadium, Shillong
Lajong FC held Chirag United SC to a goalless draw.

Mohun Bagan joined Sporting Clube de Goa (toppers of Goa
group) of and JCT (runners-up of Phagwara group) in Group A,
while East Bengal joined Dempo (runners-up of Goa group) and
Pune FC (winners of Phagwara group) in Group B for the main
round to be held in Kolkata from May 23.

Toppers of each group will play the summit clash here on
May 30.
